A Newark man was taken into custody earlier this month following a reported shoplifting incident at a Bloomfield retail store, according to a statement released by the Bloomfield Police Department.
Police said officers responded on January 8, 2026, to the Marshalls store located at 8–12 Franklin Street after receiving a report of a theft in progress.
Investigators were informed by a loss prevention officer that a male suspect had concealed a pair of sneakers inside a bag and attempted to exit the store without paying.

Authorities identified the suspect as Victor Hodge, 40, of Newark. The merchandise involved was valued at $121.64.
Responding officers arrived at the scene, took the suspect into custody, and transported him to Bloomfield Police Headquarters, where he was processed in accordance with department procedures.
The incident remains documented as part of an ongoing retail theft enforcement effort by Bloomfield police.
