Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that took place in Newark's Ironbound Section that left a man seriously injured overnight.
Gunfire erupted in the 60's block of Hawkins Street at around midnight sending several police units to the scene where a male victim was rushed to University Hospital suffering injury from gunfire. The male victim reportedly underwent surgery this morning and was only said to be in serious condition.
A resident that reside in the complex said she have seen the victim several times while "peeking" out the window. "I see the young man out there all the time, sometimes late night". " I don't want to say what I have seen him doing out there", the woman said. "I wouldn't be surprised if other criminal activity arise from this, sorry" the woman continued".
This has been the second shooting in the city's East Ward section in less than a full week.
Police setup a crime scene in the area where a search is on for the suspect.
