Newark Hospital Walk-in Shooting Victim Critically Injured in the South Ward

Newark

Police reported critical injuries in a shooting incident in Newark's South Ward on Wednesday night.

A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 11:07 p.m., officials at Beth Israel Hospital contacted Newark Police when a victim entered the emergency department suffering a gunshot wound in the neck and torso.

Police say doctors rushed the victim into surgery, where they treated severe injuries.

Unable to interview the victim, police canvassed several locations in the South Ward where they came across a crime scene in the vicinity of 266 Pamona Avenue.

Police say multiple shell casings were located with prompted police to believe that suspects in possession of various weapons engaged in a gunbattle at that location.

A vehicle was also found with bullet holes inside, according to police.

Authorities are looking for a grey vehicle that dropped the victim off at Beth Israel then drove away.

The suspects remain at large.
