Newark Police searched for a crime scene at a location in the city's downtown after a gunshot victim arrived at University Hospital during the overnight hours.
According to preliminary reports, Rutgers Police contacted Newark authorities when a vehicle arrived at the hospital and dropped off a female victim who suffered a bullet wound in her arm at approximately 8 p.m.
Police were told that the incident occurred in the 50's block of Orchard Street before the victim's arrival at University Hospital.
Authorities held the vehicle that transported the victim to the emergency room while officers searched in the vicinity of Symphony Hall for a crime scene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
