Newark Firefighters Extinguish South 19th Street Fire with One Resident Injured

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a fire at 384 South 19th Street today.

According to officials, at approximately 9:18 a.m., firefighters responded to the 2 ½ story wood frame residence and observed fire and smoke coming from a top floor window. 

Officials said that a female inside the residence jumped from the building’s roof to safety. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment. No other injuries have been reported.

Fire officials said that the fire was considered under control at 9:44 a.m. with two families, comprising four adults and two children, being relocated.

The cause and origin of this fire are under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
