Belleville Police contacted Newark authorities when they found a seriously assaulted male at a hospital in the city Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, the seriously injured male entered the emergency department of Clara Maass and told officials that he was attacked and beaten by individuals in the area of Verona Avene and Broadway around midnight.
Newark 2nd Precinct units canvassed the area for evidence, but it is not clear if a crime scene was established at this time.
The motive for the attack is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
