New York Man Charged with Assault by Auto, DWI in NJ

Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of 65-year-old Mark D. Carroll of Oak Hill, NY, on charges of assault by auto and driving while intoxicated.AdBergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said the arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Park Ridge Police Department under the direction of Chief Joseph Madden.

Officials stated that on Saturday, June 8, the Park Ridge Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident on Brae Boulevard involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to officials, an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Park Ridge Police Department revealed that a 2021 RAM pick-up truck, operated by Mark D. Carroll, was traveling west on Brae Boulevard and struck a pedestrian.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered serious injuries, officials say. 

Authorities say Carroll was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.AdAs a result of the investigation, Mark D. Carroll was arrested and charged with third-degree assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, and related motor vehicle offenses, officials said. 

Officials stated that Carroll was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, pending a detention hearing.
