New York Man Accused of Passing Counterfeit Bills Arrested in Linden

Linden New Jersey

Linden police arrested a man Wednesday after he tried to use counterfeit $100 bills to buy an iPad Mini, police said today.

Police responded to Walmart, located at 1601 W. Edgar Rd., for a report of a man attempting to purchase an I-Pad Mini with counterfeit money shortly after 8:01 p.m. Wednesday, Captain James Sarnicki said.

Store employees said the man handed over what they believed were five counterfeit $100 dollar bills for the purchase of a iPad Mini, valued at $416.23.

When officers arrived, the man, later identified as Shaqill Pluviouse, 21, of Schenectady, N.Y., ran towards the exit door and confronted another officer.

The officer told Pluviose to stop, but the suspect pushed a shopping cart into the officer causing him to fall backwards and then ran out the exit. Other officers chased him as he took off his outer shirt, and ran to nearby railroad tracks after jumping a fence. Additional officers responded and were able to apprehend Pluviose.

He was arrested and charged with forgery, theft by deception, aggravated assault on police, and resisting arrest.

He is being held at the Union County Jail on $70,000 bail pending a May 29 court date.
