Police in Newark monitored a high-speed police pursuit that began in Union County and ended with police losing the suspects in Newark.

Police say the vehicle was a vehicle stolen out of Elizabeth and wanted for several armed robberies in the region, including a gas station in Newark.

According to preliminary reports, New Providence spotted the stolen grey Jeep Cherokee in the town and attempted to pull the driver over.

Police say the driver refused and sped away from police and made his way in the eastbound lanes of the Route 78, which led into Newark's South Ward just before 2 a.m.

Newark Police units monitoring the pursuit said the pursuit touched off in several of the city's wards but was last seen in the vicinity of Littleton Avenue near South Orange Avenue.

Newark authorities placed every gas station, bus stop, and 24-hour establishments on lookouts for suspicious activities or suspects.

There were no injuries reported.
