New Jersey Prepares to Honor House Music Legendary DJ Who Died from Covid-19

Today in Newark's South Ward, the community will salute New Jersey House Music legend and founder of 'Jersey Dj’s Mr. John Eric Hutcheson 'DJ Hutch.' 

DJ Hutch created the Jersey Dj’s in January 2020 and had a love of Club/House Music.

New Jersey's house music community said DJ Hutch was known to encourage his followers to "Dance Like No One is Watching."

With exceptional skills as a DJ, Hutch played with a passion knowing that house music was what many in Essex County lived for. 

"He supported so many people and was always there in the crowd, letting us know that he had our back," loyal follower Michelle Rivera said.

The ceremony will take place on the Route 22 side of  Weequachic Park from 12 p.m. - 9 p.m.

"We are celebrating his life along with his family and many fellow Jersey Did artists and promoters from all over," Rivera said.

DJ Hutch was born in Newark on Sept. 8, 1963, to John and Mary Hutcheson. On April 7, 1990, he welcomed his only child, John Eric II, who was one of the most important people in his life.

He was a devoted father, small-business entrepreneur, beloved DJ, and passionate Dallas Cowboys fan.

DJ Hutch transitioned on March 26, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. He was 57.
