Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting investigation on May 22, 2023, in Paterson.

Jazyre K. Kearney, 21, from Paterson, and Tommy Norberto, 20, from Teaneck, are facing serious charges related to the incident.

Officials said Kearney and Norberto are both charged with two counts of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun in the Second Degree, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in the Second Degree. Additionally, Norberto faces an extra charge of Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons in the Second Degree.

Kearney has an additional Second Degree charge of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Hindering Apprehension in the Third Degree, stemming from his July 19, 2023 arrest.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, the shooting incident occurred around 6:07 p.m. on May 22, 2023, near West Broadway and Matlock Street in Paterson.

Paterson Police responded to reports of shots fired and found a 37-year-old female resident with a non-fatal gunshot wound. She was immediately taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment.

Shortly after, Prosecutor Valdes said a 35-year-old male from East Orange arrived at the same hospital with a non-fatal gunshot wound, seeking treatment.

During the investigation, authorities identified Kearney and Norberto as the shooters and obtained arrest warrants. On May 26, Paterson Police apprehended Tommy Norberto near Prospect Street and Passaic Street in Passaic.

On July 19, at approximately 11:54 p.m., Prosecutor Valdes said Kearney was arrested during a motor vehicle stop in the area of Madison Avenue and Broadway. Kearney was found in possession of an unlawful handgun at the time of his arrest and provided false information to the police.

Both suspects are currently in custody and will face the charges against them.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to ensure justice for the victims and the community affected by the shooting incident.
