New “Internet Exchange Zone” Comes to Linden

Linden

The Linden Police Department is pleased to announce the creation of a new Internet Exchange Zone.

This is a secure location for interested parties to safely complete a transaction that was initiated over the internet.

The location is directly in front of police headquarters and is monitored by 24 hour video surveillance. In the event of cold or inclement weather, the parties can enter the lobby of police headquarters, which is also under 24 hour surveillance.

After a recent transaction that turned into a robbery involving an Elizabeth juvenile along with several other instances over the past several years where residents have been victimized while negotiating internet transactions, that turned into crimes.

Police Chief Jim Schulhafer said that he hopes the creation of an internet protection zone will help to bring awareness to the possible dangers of these types of transactions and provide a safe and secure environment.

The police department is advising residents to try to complete their transactions during daytime hours and bring along a friend if they still feel uncomfortable meeting the other party to a sale.
