Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Police in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that took place in the city’s South Ward on Saturday evening.

Authorities say gunfire was reported just before 7:55 p.m. in the 400 block of Chadwick Avenue, prompting multiple police units to respond to the scene.

When officers arrived, they secured the area and began canvassing the neighborhood.

During that search, investigators recovered just under a dozen spent shell casings scattered along the roadway.

No victims were located at the scene, and no injuries have been reported.

Police also detained a person several blocks away who matched a description connected to the incident.

However, officials say no arrest has been announced at this time.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and detectives continue to work to determine what led to the gunfire.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
