Multiple Arrests in Routine Traffic Stop that Yielded Hillside Cops a Weapon

Hillside

Police in Hillside placed four people in custody late last night after a routine traffic stop had officers recovering a gun.

Hillside cops on routine border patrol near Newark reportedly pulled over a vehicle for traffic violations on Wainwright Street at around 11:15 p.m.

According to residents in the area, four people were seen exiting the vehicle at the command of officers when at least one of the occupants abruptly dashed away from the scene on foot.

Quickly responding assisting Hillside units detained three of the suspects at the scene while several other officers joined in the foot pursuit for the suspect.

The fleeing suspect led officers to the 300 block of Schley Street in Newark's South Ward where a perimeter was immediately setup to track the suspect's whereabouts near an unoccupied house according to our Metro resident friends on Schley Street.

Police located the suspect inside the house a short time later, placing him under arrest.

Back at the original scene, a search of the vehicle had officers arrest the remaining three suspects after locating a gun inside the vehicle.

There were no injuries reported.
