Multi-Department Investigation Leads to Charges Against Newark Man for Series of Burglaries

After an extensive ten-month collaborative effort, the Linden Police Detective Bureau, with assistance from detectives in Roselle, Union, Westfield, Essex, and Somerset County.AdProsecutor’s Offices has brought charges against a Newark man for a string of burglaries targeting local businesses.

Police said 36-year-old Mr. Teshawn Campbell faces six counts of third-degree burglary in addition to charges related to theft and weapons possession.

These charges stem from his alleged involvement in the burglaries of seven cellular phone stores in Linden, occurring between May and September of 2023.

According to police reports, Campbell is accused of stealing merchandise valued at over $40,000 and causing upwards of $13,000 in property damage.

At the time of these charges, Campbell was already detained for unrelated offenses and has since remained in custody at the Middlesex County Jail, with the new charges being filed against him on March 19th, 2024.AdPolice Chief David Hart highlighted the relentless dedication of the involved detectives and the significant inter-departmental cooperation that underpinned this successful outcome.

“As this case demonstrates, we remain steadfast in our commitment to reduce burglary and pursue those who wreak havoc in our community for as long as necessary,” Hart stated.

He expressed pride in the detectives' commitment and dedication, acknowledging the crucial role of cooperation among law enforcement partners in addressing such crimes.

The authorities remind the public that these charges are merely accusations and that Teshawn Campbell, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
