Police in Belleville are investigating an early-morning armed robbery attempt after a resident was confronted outside his home Saturday.
According to information released by the Belleville Police Department, officers were alerted to the incident in the area of the 100 block of Cedar Hill Avenue at approximately 3:27 a.m. on August 22.
Police said the victim was entering his residence when a man armed with a black handgun approached, pointed the weapon at him and demanded his jewelry.
A brief struggle followed before the suspect fled in a black sedan without taking any property. The victim was not injured.
Authorities described the suspect as a thin Hispanic male who was wearing dark clothing and a face mask.
Police said he spoke Spanish during the encounter.
The investigation remains active. Belleville police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or saw a black sedan in the area around the time of the attempted robbery to contact detectives.
