Maplewood Teens Struck by Car Driven by 71-Year-Old Woman in South Orange

There were non-life threatening injuries reported for two teenaged girls who were struck by a car in South Orange Saturday afternoon.

According to authorities, at approximate 12:10 pm, the 13-year-old Maplewood teens were in the crosswalk on South Orange Avenue near Academy Street attempting to cross when a vehicle driven by a 71-year old Pennsylvania woman, who was traveling eastbound, struck the at that location.

According to witnesses at the scene, the westbound traffic stopped and yielded to the juveniles as they entered the crosswalk, but the woman driving eastbound apparently did not see the girls crossing the street.

The girls were transported to the hospital for cuts and contusions after they struck the driver’s side windshield of the 2012 Kia sedan authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation.
