According to a statement released by the Maplewood Police Department, officers responded to the Brookwood Drive area shortly after receiving a report of suspicious activity involving a man entering parked cars on the street.

A concerned third-party witness contacted authorities after spotting the individual checking multiple vehicles.

Officer Cruz, who was among the first to arrive on the scene, spotted a man matching the caller’s description.

When approached, the suspect attempted to flee by running through nearby backyards, but was swiftly apprehended.

The man was later identified as Demo Clenord of Irvington.

Police charged him with burglary and obstructing the administration of law.

Authorities credited the community’s vigilance and quick response by officers for helping bring the incident to a close without injury.
