A 30-year-old township resident was taken into custody after being caught inside a home during an attempted burglary on Springfield Avenue, authorities said.
Police responded to a residence on Springfield Avenue following a report of a break-in in progress.
The caller told officers he observed an unknown male inside his daughter’s bedroom attempting to remove a television from the wall.
According to authorities, the suspect fled the residence by way of a fire escape and was last seen heading onto Springfield Avenue.
The caller provided officers with a detailed description of the individual, allowing responding patrol units to quickly canvass the surrounding area.
Officers soon located a man matching the description nearby and placed him under arrest without incident.
The suspect, identified as Angel Nives, 30, of Maplewood, was charged with burglary and theft. He was later transported to the Essex County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
