Manhole Blast Rattles Linden Homes, Businesses

Linden New Jersey

A manhole blast caused by an underground fire rattled downtown Linden this morning.

The explosion, which happened at approximately 10 a.m. at the intersection of North Wood and Elizabeth Avenues, prompted police to close off several blocks from Price Street to Linden Avenue, as  PSE&G and Linden Fire Department responded for an electrical fire under the street, Captain James Sarnicki said.

A manhole cover did blow immediately in front of 104 North Wood Avenue.

Road closures will remain until the scene is deemed safe, the captain added.

No injuries were reported.
