Man Wanted for Newark Shooting Arrested by Police

Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Kayron Caldwell, 25, of Newark, in connection with a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 22nd.

According to police, at approximately 7:38 a.m., a 20-year old man arrived at University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries resulting from being shot in the area of Hayes Street and 15th Avenue.

Doctors treated the victim then released him.

Detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to identify Kayron Caldwell as a suspect in this aggravated assault authorities said.

Police arrested Caldwell on Tuesday then charged him with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Authorities also charged Mr. Caldwell with Contempt of Court on an outstanding warrant.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
