Man Wanted for Newark Shooting Arrested

Newark man wanted in connection with an aggravated assault shooting that occurred on May 27, 2017, was taken into custody.

According to police, at approximately 4:30 a.m., police responded to the 400-block of Irvine Turner Boulevard on a report that at 52-year old man had been shot.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Detectives developed sufficient evidence identified Abdul Hinnant, 40, of Newark, as the suspect in this shooting and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives, along with the support of members of the Special Enforcement Bureau, arrested Hinnant today without incident.

He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
