A man injured by gunfire in the city's South Ward has police in Newark investigating.
Gunfire erupted in the 100 block of Mapes Ave. shortly before 11 p.m. sending heavy police presence to the scene where the victim had left the scene and arrived at University Hospital a short time later.
It is not immediately clear the extent of the victim's injury but sources told us this morning that he is expected to survive.
The shooting marks six total overnight shootings two of which were fatalities.
The incident is being investigated by the Newark Police Department.
