Man Struck by Gunfire in Newark

Police in Newark is investigating a shooting that injured a man in Newark on Friday evening.

Officials at University Hospital contacted authorities when a male victim, who was struck by gunfire, was transported by private vehicle to the hospital at around 5 p.m.

The victim reported to police that while in the area of Clinton Place and Vassar Avenue, a vehicle pulled up with several occupants inside and began to fire shots before speeding away from the scene.

The vehicle is described as a gray four-door Acura or Toyota.

The victim's injuries were not reported as life threatening.

The motive for the shooting has not ben determined.
