Police said the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian on a roadway in Newark's North Ward remained at this scene and cooperated with authorities.
According to police, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an off-duty police officer notified authorities that a male victim suffering a severe head injury was lying on the ground near the intersection of Clay Street and McCarter Highway.
Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
