An early morning shooting that occurred in Newark's South Ward has police investigating.
Police were called to the 300 block of Wainwright Street at around 5 a.m. where arriving officers located a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg that location.
According to preliminary reports, the victim told authorities that while he was exiting his vehicle in the area, gunfire erupted, striking him in the leg.
EMS rushed the man to University Hospital where his injuries were not immediately reported as life threatening.
The investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing.
