Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a male in the city's West Ward on Monday morning.
According to police, shortly before 12;30 a.m., University Hospital officials contacted police when a male victim entered the emergency department suffering bullet wounds.
Police say the victim told police that the incident occurred in the vicinity of 392 South Orange Avenue before arriving at the hospital.
Officers arrived at the location and taped off the block from South 11th to South 12th street after they found shell casings at that location. According to reports, a bullet smashed through the window of the 24-hour convenience store and nearly struck a person sitting in a wheelchair.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspect remains at-large.
