A shooting in Newark's South Ward has a male victim suffering serious injuries after gunfire struck him multiple times.
The victim was transported by private vehicle to Beth Israel Hospital at around 9 p.m. prompting officials to contact police.
Officers are searching several neighborhoods in the South Ward after receiving 911 calls reporting shots fired.
Police located a crime scene in the 100 block of Vassar Avenue at Maple Avenue where authorities believe the victim suffered the gunshot wounds.
Police also found more than a half dozen shell casings in the 20's block of Johnson Avenue. There were shots fired reports on Goldsmith and Stratford avenues but not evidence of a shooting found.
The extent of the victim's injuries is reported as serious.
Police are investigating if the incident is a result of a robbery.
