A dual citizen of Mexico and the United States has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for his role in a sophisticated drug trafficking conspiracy that moved multi-kilogram quantities of fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine through New Jersey and other states, according to U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
Edgar Lopez Razo Jr., 30, was sentenced on July 14, 2026, to 104 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz in Newark federal court.
Lopez Razo previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.
According to federal authorities, Lopez Razo admitted that between approximately February 2022 and March 2024, he participated in a scheme that used a network of short-term rental properties to receive large shipments of narcotics.
Prosecutors said Lopez Razo and a co-conspirator repeatedly booked temporary rental homes, changing delivery locations to avoid detection by law enforcement. Investigators determined the pair used at least 27 rental properties across New Jersey and other states as part of the trafficking operation.
The investigation led to the seizure of more than 31 kilograms of cocaine, over 9 kilograms of fentanyl, and nearly 5 kilograms of heroin.
The investigation was conducted by special agents with the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Newark.
