Newark

A judge in Newark sentenced 20-year-old Darnel Williams to 12 years in prison for a 2011 shooting that left  64-year-old  Kenneth Kwiatkowsky, a resident of Chapel St. fatally wounded.

Authorities said that Williams was attempting to rob three people in the apartment when he fired the gun that struck Kwiatkowsky.

Williams pleaded guilty in February to aggravated assault, robbery, and weapons offense.

The judge ordered Williams to serve about 10 years before becoming eligible for parole. Williams received two and a half years of time served.
