Man Injured in Newark South Ward Shooting Tuesday Evening

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in the city’s South Ward.

The incident was reported shortly before 5:20 p.m. in the area of West Runyon Street and Ingram Place. 

According to witnesses, gunfire erupted in the neighborhood, prompting a police response.

 

Arriving officers located a male victim, believed to be around 60 years old, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg. 

He was transported to University Hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately released, but the injury is being reported by authorities as critical. 

 

The motive for the shooting remains under active investigation, and no additional injuries were reported. 

Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect.
