A 36-year-old man was injured in a shooting Tuesday evening in Jersey City, prompting a large police response and an active investigation.

The shooting was reported at approximately 5:07 p.m. in the area of Dales Avenue. Responding officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the back and requested emergency medical assistance.
The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center as a trauma alert for treatment.
Authorities initially searched the area for a possible second victim but later confirmed that only one person had been struck.
According to emergency dispatch reports, three suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
Investigators recovered evidence near the crime scene, including a pair of gloves, as they processed the area. Additional police units were dispatched to Jersey City Medical Center to assist with crowd control.
The victim’s condition has not been released, and no arrests have been announced.
The investigation remains active.
