Newark police are investigating a shooting that left a man seriously injured early Tuesday morning in the city’s Central Ward.
According to officials, a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire around 2 a.m. in the area of 56 Boyd Street.
Officers were dispatched to the scene and located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was transported to University Hospital for treatment, where his condition was listed as serious. No other victims were found at the scene.
Police secured the area with crime scene tape and requested assistance from the department’s Shooting Response Team.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, and no arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact Newark Police.
