Man Found Shot in Newark Says Incident Happened in Irvington Township

Police in Irvington are on the search for a suspect wanted for a shooting that severely injured a male in the Township overnight.

According to preliminary reports, Newark police responded to the vicinity of Stuyvesant and Unity avenues at around 1:30 a.m. to check on reports of a person shot at that location.

Several police units arrived at the scene and found the victim bleeding from the back after an unidentified male suspect opened fire on him while he attempted to flee the vicinity of Orange Avenue and Lenox Street in Irvington Township according to reports.

Newark officials contacted Irvington authorities who sent units to the scene to search for evidence and a possible suspect.

Officers located at least one shell casing during their search of the area but the suspect remains at-large.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
