Man Found Shot Multiple Times in Newark Neighborhood

Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to assist at the scene of a shooting that had a male victim severely injured in Newark during the overnight hours.

Gunfire rang out in the 600 block of 18th Street just before 1:10 a.m. sending police to the scene where they found a male victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the torso according to preliminary reports. Police focused their attention on an unoccupied car that was in the middle of the street with the doors open.

The unconscious, unresponsive and unidentified victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark where doctors began treating life-threatening injuries according to reports.

Police issued an alert for a light complexioned black male suspect who fled the scene on South 18th Street immediately after the shooting and remains at-large.

There were no other injuries reported.
