Man Found Shot Multiple Times Near Newark Elementary School

Newark

Newark Police officials are looking into a shooting that injured a male near an elementary school in the city Friday evening.

According to police, gunfire rang out near the 14th Avenue Elementary School located in the 100 block of Avenue at approximately 6 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim -around the age of 24- suffering multiple gunshot wounds in his legs, shoulder, and groin according to preliminary reports.

The unidentified male was rushed to University Hospital, where doctors listed him in serious but stable condition.

Police believe that the shooting is connected with a shots-fired incident that occurred at 360 South Orange Avenue about 15 minutes after they found the 14th Avenue shooting victim.

Authorities say a white Range Rover, occupied by several black males, arrived at the location and began firing shots at unknown targets before speeding away from the scene.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police spotted the Range Rover near the vicinity of Bergen and 18th Avenue. The driver sped away when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over.

Police called off the pursuit when they lost sight of the car shortly after.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
