Authorities in Essex County are on the search for a gunman who fired a shot in a Newark neighborhood that struck a male overnight.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. in the 300 block of 7th Avenue where witnesses informed police of an injured person at that location.
Units arrived at the scene an found the victim suffering head trauma as a result of a gunshot injury according to reports.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors began treating the victim for critical injuries.
Police believe that a black male suspect with dread fired the shot at the victim then ran from the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
