Man Found Shot on Court Street in Newark

Police have a large crime scene stretching several blocks on the border of Newark’s East and Central wards, where officers canvass the area for shell casings after a gunman opened fire in the area that striking man this evening. 

According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of the old Star-Ledger Newspaper building around 8:35 p.m., sending police officers to the scene to investigate. 


Units arrived and found a male victim suffering bullet wounds at that location. 


Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is in an unknown condition at this time. 


Court Street was closed from Washington to Martin Luther King Boulevard and a portion of West Kinney for the investigation. 


Police say shell casings were also found in the 400 block of Washington Street. 


The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
