Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident in Newark on Friday night in Newark, NJ, in which three people were shot, one fatally.
The incident occurred in the area of 59 North 9th Street at approximately 11:00 p.m. Newark police officers responded to this area on a report of a shooting. Arriving officers located three victims, two males and a womansuffering from gunshot wounds.
All three victims were rushed to University Hospital, where one of the male victims was subsequently pronounced dead earlier this morning at 1:11 a.m.
The victim of the fatal shooting has been identified as Andrew Peppers, age 28, of Newark. The other victims, whose identities are not being released, are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
