Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Early Morning Stabbing in NJ

 A 60-year-old borough resident is facing multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, following a violent stabbing incident in Bergen County, authorities announced.

According to information released by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, Victor A. Soto, 60, of Fairview, was taken into custody in connection with the attack, which occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026.

 

Police were dispatched to Grant Street at approximately 1:23 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. 

Upon arrival, officers located a 60-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face, hands, and legs. 

The victim was rushed to Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center, where he was hospitalized with serious injuries.

 

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene but was quickly located and apprehended by Fairview police officers.

 

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded and launched a joint investigation alongside the Fairview Police Department, with assistance from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. 

The investigation determined that Soto allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before attempting to flee.
 

Soto has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending further proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.

 

The investigation remains ongoing.
