Man Barricades Inside House with Child After Domestic Incident in Elizabeth

Police are continuing to investigate a domestic violence incident that prompted a man to barricade himself inside a house Saturday in Elizabeth.

According to a statement released by Elizabeth city Spokeswoman Kelly Martins, at around 6 p.m., a woman came into Elizabeth Police Headquarters to make a domestic violence complaint against her husband.

Spokeswoman Martins said Elizabeth Police swiftly responded with her back to an unspecified address in the 500 block of Jackson Avenue and found that the suspect barricaded himself in the bedroom with their 12-year-old daughter.

According to Spokeswoman Martins, an Emergency Services Unit and hostage negotiator teams were on scene and began to speak to the suspect who surrendered a short time later.

The suspect was apprehended by Elizabeth Police and the child was safe according to Martins.
