According to a statement from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Leonia Police responded to Grand Avenue near Ames Avenue around 4:35 a.m. on July 10, 2025, after a passerby discovered an unconscious woman along the roadside.

Officers arrived to find the victim with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. She was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she remains hospitalized.

A joint investigation by Leonia Police, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, and the Fatal Accident Task Force determined that the woman was attempting to cross Grand Avenue when she was struck by a red vehicle that fled the scene.

Detectives later identified the suspect vehicle as a red 2012 Toyota Sienna and determined that  Osmary Jimenez-Luna was the driver involved in the collision.

On Monday, July 14, Jimenez-Luna was arrested and charged with third-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and fourth-degree endangering an injured victim.

She also faces multiple motor vehicle violations. Jimenez-Luna was booked into the Bergen County Jail and is awaiting her first court appearance in Hackensack.
