Man Arrested for Making Bomb Threat at Newark City Hall

Police in Newark announced 3rd Precinct Officers arrested Montral Sawyer, 47, of Newark for causing a false public alarm at City Hall earlier today.

According to authorities, approximately 9:00 a.m., officers were approached by Sawyer who stated that he had just placed a bomb inside City Hall and refused to tell them where it was located.

Members of the Department’s Emergency Response Team were notified and responded while the 3rd precinct officers arrested Sawyer.

City Hall was evacuated as a precautionary measure while the Essex County Sheriff K9/Bomb unit and Newark Emergency Response Team members conducted a thorough search of the building and found no devices.

Sawyer was charged with causing a false public alarm police said.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
