Man Arrested in Connection with Shooting that Injured One in Paterson

Passaic County officials announced that Alexander Nieves, 23, from Paterson was arrested in relation to a shooting that took place July 18, in the area of East 24th Street and 14th Avenue in Paterson.

Alexander Nieves is charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Certain Persons not to Have Weapons.

According to police, on July 18, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of East 24th Street and 14th Avenue on a report of shots fired.

Police report that upon arrival responding officers located a potential crime scene but were unable to locate a victim.

A short time later members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of 21st Street and Madison Avenue on a report of an individual who had been shot.

According to police, upon arrival responding officers located a 25-year-old male Paterson resident who sustained two nonfatal gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment.

Police determined the 25-year-old male was shot in the area of East 24th Street and 14th Avenue in Paterson.

Based on the investigation Alexander Nieves was identified and arrested on August 14 at approximately 11:38 p.m. in the area of East 22nd Street.
