Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting that had a male arrive at a Belleville hospital by a private vehicle Sunday night.
Units from Belleville Police were joined by officers from The Newark Police Department at the Clara Maass Hospital after a male suffering gunshot injuries was dropped off at the emergency department at around 9:30 p.m.
The victim reported that he suffered his injury 7th Avenue and Broadway shortly before arriving at the hospital according to preliminary reports.
Police set up a crime scene at the hospital where they searched the vehicle that the suspect was dropped off in, but the driver did not appear to cooperate with police reports said.
Family members and friends of the victim arrived at the hospital causing police to request additional units.
The victim's injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
The investigation into the motive for the shooting remains active and ongoing.
