A male gunshot victim suffered non-fatal wounds after being shot in Newark's West Ward Thursday night.
A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9:40 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near 115 Brookdale Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred, but while searching the area, no victims were found.
University Hospital officials notified police during the investigation that a male gunshot victim entered the emergency department.
Police say a ShotSpotter device detected several rounds of gunfire in the Vailsburg community.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There were no other injuries reported.
