Police have a suspect in custody for a shooting that injured a man in a section of Newark's South Ward this evening.
According to police, around 7:30 p.m., gunfire rang out in the area of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Branford Street, sending police to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering bullet wounds in his shoulder at that location.
Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
There is a crime scene established at the Speedway gas station on Elizabeth Avenue.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
