Police in Irvington found a male gunshot victim in the township Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 3 a.m., police responded to reports of an injured person in the 80's block of Melrose Avenue.
When police arrived, they found the victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound at that location.
After a brief investigation, police say the victim told them that the incident happened in the vicinity of 396 Halsey Street in Newark's downtown.
Newark Police responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of 999 Broad Street about an hour before the victim was located.
In the incident, police believe that suspect in two or even three vehicles exchanged gunfire in the area.
The incident remains under investigation and is being handled by Newark Police officials.
Police have not released the motive for the incident at this time.
