Male Injured in Newark South Ward Shooting

There is an active and ongoing investigation underway into a shooting that caused injuries in a section of Newark's South Ward Tuesday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired in the vicinity of 184 Jellliff Avenue just before 12:45 a.m.

Officers arrived at the scene found a male victim suffering a nonlife-threatening bullet wound in his leg, according to police.

Units at the scene taped off the area while EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment.

Newark Major Crimes units were on the scene handling the investigation and searching for the suspect who remains at-large.

The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
