Male Injured in Newark-Irvington Border Shooting; Gunman at Large

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting that left one man injured Wednesday evening near the border of Newark and Irvington Township.

The incident occurred in the 70 block of Springfield Avenue near South 20th Street, where witnesses reported a gunman emerging from the Newark side and firing multiple rounds toward a group of males in the area. 

The sudden gunfire caused panic, with residents and shoppers at nearby stores running for cover.

Responding officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. 

He was transported to University Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.
